Re-Usable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Face Masks

Professor: Margaret Frey

Project Description
: Nanoscale fibers are formed via an electrospinning process and can be combined with conventional fabric to capture submicron to micron size particles. These multilayer fabricated systems are used in face coverings as source control of bioaerosols and personal protection from particulate matter, bioaerosols, and chemical pollutants. This project will be focused on spinning and characterizing nanofibers to relate their morphology to their filtration effectiveness. The results will be used as part of the design of a reusable face covering that meet the FDA mask performance for the service life of the product and replace the demand for medical face masks for nonhealthcare professionals. (This project is offered In-Person or Hybrid)
