Increase Peak Resolution and Scale Up the Purification of Organic Polymers With Our New JAI Recycling GPC System (Oct 2014)

The Polymer Characterization Facility in ST Olin 165 has recently installed a JAI LC9110II-NEXT Preparative Recycling GPC system.  The preparative GPC, just as in the analytical type of system, separates polymers based on their “size” (hydrodynamic radius) with the added capability of [bold] purification of materials at the preparative level[/bold].  The system is capable of recycling the eluted sample and mobile phase through the column set several times in a closed-loop fashion, which increases the efficiency of the separation without the need to add more expensive columns and all the while conserving mobile phase.  In the end, individual fractions can be collected with a fraction collector, pooled and evaporated in order to isolate narrow polydispersity index (PDI) materials from simple or complex mixtures
