TA Instruments 5500 Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA)

Location:  B-78 S. T. Olin Laboratory

The TGA detects weight loss as a function of temperature change for a variety of materials, including homopolymers, copolymers, low molecular weight compounds, and mixtures of these, and measures their thermal stability and heat resistance. Determines the moisture content of polymers and related materials and the amount of volatiles in elastomer systems. Routine analyses between ambient and 1000°C. Equipped with an auto-sampling platform for sequential multi-sample analysis.  The IR furnace is capable of linear heating rates from 0.1 to 1000 C / min, and ballistic heating rates at > 600 C / min. The instrument has a automated sealed pan punch that can be used for air and moisture sensitive samples that require an inert atmosphere up until the run begins.
