Amping up Organic Chemistry Using Electrosynthesis

Professor: Song Lin

Project Description:
Electrochemistry represents a new, efficient, and sustainable approach to discovering organic reactions. The introduction of small-molecule catalysts would further enhance the efficiency and selectivity of electrochemical reactions. We will explore the combination of electrochemistry and catalysis to innovate synthetic organic chemistry. In particular, we will develop reaction methods that allow for the facile and selective conversion of readily available starting materials, such as sugars, CO2 and other abundant naturally occurring feedstocks, into highly functionalized and value-added products, such as pharmaceuticals and polymers.
